mistico

How can we really speak of the mystics? The only approach these human figures is quite shocking. In fact the authentic characteristic of every mystic is this: he upsets all our category, all our epistemological approach. We can not really know the mystic with the usual intellectual and cultural categories. With the mystics what happens, according to Heisenberg, happens with reality sub-atomic, we need a different language. Which means a different view and a open mind free from ideological and cultural conditioning. The mystics have always been a source of great embarrassment for the official religions; the mystic begins its journey where the ethical path-religious ends, and, as noted Bergson: “The spectacle of what religions were and what some are still, it’s very humbling to human intelligence.

[…] The true mystics simply open the wave that invades them. Sure of themselves, because they feel in themselves something that is better than they are, turn out great men of action, something that will surprise those for whom mysticism is not that vision, transportation, ecstasy. “The mystic is a phenomenon who went through all times and all places, it is an extreme condition of consciousness where the human being is transcended while remaining human; this paradox (similar to sub-atomic particles that appear and disappear in space-time) have proven individuals like Joan of Arc and William Blake, who acted in the history while continuing to live in another dimension … The mystic, as you will see, does not accept the patterns of religion or of intellectual categories, he is never compromised, while each religion thrives on compromise, century after century. The mystic knows that the world regarded by all as reality is only a dream, while religions attach too much to the temporal dimension; Also here the paradox: the mystic who sees the world as an illusion turns, religions, however, are left overwhelmed by the movement of history. The mystics are the secret engine of humanity, of culture, of what is valuable; every culture had different names for this personality: shaman, witch doctor, guru, seer, etc.

Anyway the mystics have used different terms to describe common experiences, and often the images and the words used are the same; the same metaphors, the same parables, to give voice to the soul and its direct contact with the divine. Mystics were long excluded from the study modern, partly because of the ideologies of the Enlightenment and positivist; a few decades as authors Turf, Guenon, Panikkar tried to explore the mystical continent, but have barely touched some coastal areas; You must begin to venture into the heart of the mystical, trying to avoid the two traps more subtle: the absorption of the mystics by the current new age and the total rejection of scholars materialists. Both attitudes are born from the same error: not wanting to see the mystic as a pure phenomenon. Husserl gave us a great tool: the phenomenological look, a look that should not serve our prejudices but must leave the eye and talk about the phenomenon. That’s what I set out with this book, which is, precisely, a journey of the gaze in the heart of the mystical.

Guenon noted: “Islamic esotericism has nothing in common with the” mysticism “. […] Mysticism seems to be actually something quite peculiar to Christianity. “Here the great scholar has made a serious error: he tried to lock up an explosive personality as that of the mystic in the strict categories; but the mystic is also a great start and each started a mystic; just not all initiates come into the open, as did Pythagoras, Apollonius of Tyana, Jesus and many more … The reasons for this ‘come out’ we will see them later; Meanwhile, it should be recognized that the mystic can not be the phenomenon of a single religion, because it has appeared as a phenomenon beyond historical and geographical barrier; Panikkar has rightly noted: “The mystic lives life to its fullest …” and in every mystical Life, Christian, jew, Muslim, or Hindu, met a lover from the endless charm. What has most annoyed religions in their mystical is this intimacy with God, an intimacy that even uses the language of eroticism. Even Jesus in the Gospels refers to God the term abba, but that term is not translated as ‘Father’, because it is a term of endearment, a word they use friends who are very familiar.

Every religion has attempted, the fund, to disguise their origin and revolutionary mystique, but the mystics are always rispuntati, like flowers that no poison was able to eradicate
In the comparative analysis of the mystical universal scholars they have interrupted their anthologies with the French Revolution, because “the end of the ancient humanity is marked in the eighteenth century by the appearance of a mysticism that is indistinguishable from the syncretic ambitions, mystification, with Emanuel Swedenborg But this is only partly true and would say that the mystic, in the end, yield to the fashions of their time; instead the mystic is also present in modern times, just more hidden and more deformed by the mirrors of our own prejudices The same plate was unfair to Swedenborg and to Blake, who are men of his age, but also human beings who have had mystical experiences are well documented.

But being able to discover the mystical in the chaos of centuries and cultures is not an easy job; It is really like trying small diamonds in a very dangerous forest … Also still missing a correct view of mysticism linked to the Vedas and the Bhakti preserved in India; most scholars have not been able to enter the heart of certain traditions, because such knowledge is never the subject oflearning and in no way can be learned by reading booksbecause the mystique is transmitted by heart to heart; here is the ultimate challenge of the mystics: to have the courage to meet them in person. Only then we will understand the way through, just staying with that person, scrutinizing smile, hearing her laugh or her song. Before that fateful and exciting encounter every book is a veil, a preparation, a small map to cross the dark forest.
